What you need to know about the new Help to Buy scheme

November 2020

The Help to Buy scheme has been used by so many of our customers to reserve their dream Story home, no matter what stage of their home buying journey they were at.

Many customers will still be able to reserve using the scheme, however, one of the key changes is that it is only available to first time buyers, which unfortunately means that those who already own a home won’t be eligible for the new scheme.

Another key change is to the homes that will be available as part of the scheme. Previously, Help to Buy could be used on any Story home up to the value of £600,000, however under the new scheme, this value is lower and varies depending on the region you are buying in.

The new Help to Buy scheme will launch in April 2021.

The new scheme can be used on homes that are due to complete after April 2021, which means you’ll be able to reserve using Help to Buy before it officially launches in April – as soon as we have homes available under the new scheme, we will advertise them on our website.

The new scheme will only be available to first time buyers who have not owned a property previously.

It will be available on a selection of our homes. The new scheme can be used on properties up to a certain value, anything listed above that value will be exempt from the scheme.

For homes in Cumbria & the North West, the cap is £224,400. For homes in the North East it is £186,100.

Yes, you can borrow an equity loan of up to 20% of the value of the property from the Government which is interest free for the first five years.

You’ll only need a 5% deposit with the new Help to Buy scheme.

You can get in touch with the Sales Executive at the development of your choice and they will be happy to help you – all contact details can be found on our website.

If you aren’t eligible for the new scheme don’t worry, we have a handful of homes that can be reserved under the current scheme. All homes being reserved under the current Help to Buy scheme need to be complete before the new scheme launches in April, which means it’s only available on a select few homes, with reservations required to take place by the start of December to ensure they qualify.
