We are delighted to have secured planning permission to deliver 111 new homes and the associated infrastructure on land at West End Farm in Ulverston.
Westmorland & Furness Council resolved to grant planning consent for the scheme at its Planning Committee meeting on 27 March. The scheme will mark Story Homes’ second residential development in Ulverston, following the success of ‘Laurel Place’ which was completed last year.
The development will include a mix of one to six-bedroom new homes, with 35% of the properties earmarked to be affordable homes for eligible local people. In addition, Story Homes will contribute over £1,000,000 towards Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)* projects as identified by the Council.
From first-time buyers to downsizers or those looking for a ‘forever’ family home, the scheme will offer a variety of house types to suit the needs of buyers at all life stages, including bungalows, apartments, semi-detached and detached homes. The high quality, high specification homes at this development have been designed with modern living in mind and will feature flexible, open plan layouts along with attractive, unique street scenes.
The plans were carefully designed, considering the local vernacular and the needs of the community. New areas of open space will be incorporated throughout the development for use by both new and existing residents in the area, and these attractive landscaped areas will offer ecological and biodiversity benefits through natural surface water management features.
Adam McNally, Senior Land & Planning Manager for Story Homes in Cumbria & Scotland said: “We’re thrilled to have received planning consent from Westmorland & Furness Council for our new residential development in Ulverston, allowing us the opportunity to bring more of our high-quality homes to the South Lakes region. This marks an exciting step forward in our commitment to delivering thoughtfully designed, high specification homes that meet the needs of the local community.
“We take great pride in designing homes that not only reflect the character of the area but also enhance it. With a variety of house types designed around flexible living, green spaces, and beautiful street scenes, we’re confident that this development will become a thriving and desirable place to live for years to come.”
This new residential development will also create benefits for the local economy during the construction phase as a result of direct and indirect employment opportunities through the sub-contractor and supply chains, as well as an increased demand for local services when the new homes are occupied.
It is anticipated that on-site works for this new development will commence in late summer 2025.

*Community Infrastructure Levy is a charge which can be levied by local authorities on new development in their area.
