New bus service for Kirklevington residents

November 2022

As part of our development, St Martin’s Green, we have introduced a new bus service for residents in Kirklevington at a cost of circa £555,000.

The bus service, which launched in October, runs seven days a week and is operated by Arriva; the full timetable can be found here. The bus route runs from ‘Kirklevington The Green’ to ‘Stockton High Street’ and back, stopping in locations such as Yarm and Eaglescliffe, providing a much needed service to local residents that hasn’t been available for some time.

In line with Section 106 agreements between us and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, the bus service aims to mitigate any impact St Martin’s Green may have on existing local infrastructure in Kirklevington and to encourage current and future residents to use sustainable forms of transport.

Richard Swann, Planning Manager at Story Homes, said: “By working closely with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, we identified that a new bus service in Kirklevington could improve transport connections for local residents and help make St Martin’s Green a sustainable development in accordance with the Stockton-on-Tees Local Plan.

“This new bus service will bring numerous advantages to the local community in Kirklevington. As well as the environmental benefits such as reduced air pollution, increased fuel efficiency and helping to reduce traffic congestion, the new service will also increase mobility and connectivity for those who don’t or can’t drive, helping to tackle the growing issue of isolation of the elderly.”

We worked with Arriva to introduce the bus service; Richard McGowan, Area Head of Commercial for Arriva North East said: “Arriva are excited to be working with Story Homes to provide this new service for residents of Kirklevington. In the current climate, when sustainable travel is more important than ever, opportunities to offer new bus services and travel opportunities to areas otherwise outside of the existing bus network is a real positive step.

“This service not only offers these new journey opportunities for residents of Kirklevington, but also residents locally between Stockton and Yarm and further cements Arriva’s commitment to continue to develop our networks around the communities we serve.”

St Martin’s Green features a range of three, four and five-bedroom homes from our Story Collection, designed for modern living with flexible, open plan spaces. To find out more, click here.
