Save over £1,981 on annual energy bills with a new build home

October 2024

Did you know that new build houses can save you up to £1,981 on energy bills per year. Find out how choosing a Story home over a second-hand house could improve energy efficiency and have a positive impact on your bills.

Cheaper energy bills

The trade association representing private sector housebuilders in England and Wales, the Home Builders Federation (HBF), reported that a new build home could save you an average of £1,981 per year on energy bills compared to a second-hand house, a saving of around £165 per month. That’s money you can add to your savings or spend on the things you love.

The HBF recorded that annually, the average new build house energy bill is up to 65% cheaper compared to an average older house.

How efficient are new builds?

Up to September 2024, HBF reported that 86% of new build homes were given an A-B Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating for energy efficiency. In comparison, only 5% of older existing properties were awarded the same rating.

Some of the energy efficient features in a Story home are shown in the table below:

Long term benefits

With a new build you can expect low maintenance costs, fewer repairs and there’s no renovation required, potentially saving you thousands.

Making greener choices and being environmentally conscious is more important than ever. HBF reported that new build homes emit just 1.22 tonnes of carbon a year, compared to the 3.51 tonnes that older properties emit, which makes new homes 65% more environmentally friendly.

Plus, our developments are built to last with more green spaces, wider paths and we’re committed to improving community areas to create a luxurious way of living that doesn’t end once you step outside of your home. We also work in an environmentally friendly way with sustainable urban drainage systems and recycling across our sites and offices.
