Local school children visit Highfields

May 2023

Three groups of students from Riverside Primary Academy in Gateshead recently visited our Highfields development to learn more about house building on a live development site.

The Year 1 school trips were planned to coincide with the children’s current topic, ‘Build it Big’.

The children really enjoyed being on site to see the diggers and other machinery, and they had fun completing the worksheets we provided, which encouraged them to look for different objects around the site. They were all really excited when our Builder Bear mascot arrived to say hello.

Ellis said: “It was a real pleasure to have the children on site, and I’m so pleased they enjoyed their visits. It’s great that the children got to experience what it’s like on a busy development, and that they got to learn about the materials we use, which they all had the opportunity to touch and feel.”

Ruth Knott, Year 1 Teacher from Riverside Primary Said: “The children had an absolutely amazing time at Story Homes’ Highfields development for our school trip!

“Our topic was ‘Build It Big’ and Ellis made sure that the topic was covered in a variety of ways while we were on site. The children loved looking at all of the materials that are used when building a house and were amazed by how many bricks it takes to build just one house!

“Wearing mini hard hats and high visibility vests gave the children that first hand experience which we always strive to achieve on trips, and both the children and teachers loved it! The appearance of Builder Bear just made their trips even more memorable.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Ellis and the team at Story Homes for making this a trip that the children will never forget.”

Kye Bradley, North East Sales Director said: “At Story Homes we recognise that our developments form part of wider communities and therefore we were delighted to be able to support the pupils with their learning. Everyone had a fantastic time, and it was great to see the children having fun whilst they learn.”
