From renovation to buying a new Story home ‘off plan’

January 2022

We’re shining a spotlight on Charlotte and Seth, who were some of the first customers to move into their new Story home at Laurel Place in Ulverston. Their first home was a project which they’d been renovating for 18 months before deciding to move to a brand-new Story home where they could choose their dream kitchen, bathroom and more – without the work.

They chose their plot at the beginning of the development before any of the homes had been built, so were buying ‘off plan’, trusting in the quality of our current developments and using artists impressions to help them visualise their new home.

They decided on The Stanford, a beautiful 3-bedroom semi-detached home featuring an open plan kitchen, dining and family area with French doors leading out onto to the paved patio and turfed garden. This home is very similar to The Spencer and you can see our Spencer show home pictured below.

We caught up with Charlotte, who is a financial administrator, and Seth, a reactor commissioning engineer, to hear how they found buying ‘off plan’ and being one of the first to move in.

Were you looking for a new build?

“Having gone through the renovation process in our previous house, the idea of walking into a home that was ready sounded perfect – no stress, no fuss and no mess! What more could you ask for? We owned our previous home for around 6 months before we actually moved in as we had big interior jobs to do first, but with our Story home, we moved in the same day that we got the keys.”

Tell us about your experience with Story Homes. What made you want to buy ‘off plan’?

“It was a totally new experience for us, not only buying a new build but buying off plan too! We were lucky enough to be one of the first to reserve our plot at Laurel Place, meaning we had so many options. Being one of the first allowed us to pick our perfect plot which made the whole thing that little bit better.

“The experience from beginning to end was great, our Sales Executive Sarah gave us peace of mind and was always at the other end of the phone if we had any questions about anything at all. We researched Story Homes thoroughly to make sure we would get the quality and found nothing but good reviews, which made our decision so much easier.

“We looked around show homes on different developments while they were building the show homes at Laurel Place. They were all so beautifully decorated and you really get that wow feeling when you walk through the door. We highly recommend a Story home to anyone that asks!”

Why did you choose The Stanford and what are your favourite design features?

“Although The Stanford isn’t one of the biggest house types that Story Homes build, it’s perfect for us. The living space is great, we especially love our kitchen/dining/family area. It’s our favourite room in the house and an ideal space for us to host friends and family. Designing our kitchen was the best part of the process.

“We also really love the hall and landing space, it makes everything feels so open and looks so grand. The exterior of the home looks lovely and the double driveway really is a great bonus.”

Here’s a peek inside Charlotte and Seth’s home too…

Why did you want to move and what made you choose Laurel Place?

“We bought our first home as a project and slowly did it up over 18 months. We planned to stay there for a few more years, but as there was a boom in the property market during COVID-19, we thought it’d be a good opportunity to reap the rewards of our renovation work. We started looking into what was available and saw Laurel Place had just launched.

“Our previous home was in Dalton-in-Furness, but we always wanted to move back to Ulverston where we’d feel much more settled, having grown up here with our parents living just down the road. Laurel Place offered us the perfect location, not far out of town but not too close. We have shops, the leisure centre and places for food and drinks right around the corner all while being so private and peaceful.”
