Customer case study: Upsizing to a second Story home

March 2025

Nathan and Rebecca, along with their two dogs, Willow and Brodie, have recently moved into their second Story home at our Whins View development.

We caught up with them to learn why they chose to upsize to a larger Story home, and what makes The Robinson the perfect choice for them.

What made you choose our Whins View development? What do you like most about the location?

“We were already living in West Cumbria on the Edgehill Park development and knew we wanted to upsize to another Story home. We considered both Edgehill Park and Whins View, but ultimately chose Whins View because we loved its convenient access to scenic walking routes in the Lakes. It also felt like a great fit for our lifestyle, especially with our love for dog walking.”

Which house type did you choose and why?

“We chose The Robinson. Originally, we were set on The Sanderson, as we loved the show home at Edgehill Park. We hadn’t considered The Robinson before, but when using the Home Move scheme to reserve a Sanderson, the sales team mentioned that a Robinson – which is slightly bigger – would be completed sooner, and there was a show home next door.

“The moment we stepped inside, we fell in love! While we initially preferred The Sanderson’s kitchen layout on paper, seeing The Robinson’s traditional kitchen in person changed everything for us – it was exactly what we wanted.

“Since we both work from home two days a week, having a downstairs study was a huge plus. It allows us to keep all four bedrooms upstairs free while still having a dedicated office space.”

What do you love most about your house type?

“Upgrading to the traditional kitchen was the best decision – we absolutely love how it looks, and it makes the space feel even more open and inviting.”

Which room do you find yourselves spending the most time in?

“Definitely the kitchen and living area. We have enough space to include a sofa, which makes it a great social space. The natural lighting is fantastic, especially since we’re south facing. The bifold doors and large windows mean we get sunlight throughout the day, making the space feel even brighter and more welcoming.”

Did you consider a second-hand property? If yes, why did you choose new?

“Yes, we considered second-hand properties, including resale Story homes, as we initially weren’t sure if buying new would be possible for us. However, we realised that every second-hand home we looked at had aspects we would want to change.

“In the end, we chose a new build so we could tailor everything to our taste from the start. The Home Move scheme helped us sell our previous home, and although we moved back in with family for nine months while waiting for our home to be built, it was completely worth it – we’re now in a home that we truly love.”

What do you like most about living in a new build?

“The peace of mind that everything is built to a high standard, and if any issues arise, they’re identified and resolved quickly. It’s also really special knowing that everything in the home was chosen by us and designed exactly to our taste. This is our forever home, and it feels amazing to have everything just right.”

Did you consider other housebuilders and if yes, why did you choose Story Homes?

“No, we had previously bought a Spencer at Edgehill Park in 2021 and loved both the experience and the home itself. When we decided to upsize, we only considered Story Homes.”

Would you recommend, or have you already recommended Story Homes?

“Absolutely! We’ve had fantastic experiences buying from Story Homes twice now, and always share our positive experience with anyone considering a new build.”
