Customer case study: Relocation to Riverbrook Gardens

November 2024

Julie and Andrew, have relocated to their new Story home in August. They moved from Liverpool to our Riverbrook Gardens development in Alnwick. We caught up with them to find out why they chose to move to our Riverbrook Gardens development, and what makes the area so perfect for them.

Read our Q&A to find out more.

What made you choose our Riverbrook Gardens development?

“We stumbled upon this development by accident. Whilst looking to relocate from Liverpool to Northumberland, we visited different areas in February 2023 to see what each could offer and get a sense of each place. I have lived in Liverpool my entire life, and my husband, originally from Bolton, has lived in Merseyside for 39 years.

“Although we were accustomed to having numerous amenities on our doorstep, but we desired a more rural lifestyle, as we love walking and exploring the area. Our niece, who attended Newcastle University 20 years ago, introduced us to many places and and she and her husband helped us to choose this area knowing the things we like to do.

“As we were driving past the portacabin on Denwick Lane, I popped in to pick up a brochure and speak to the member of staff. However, the completion date for our house was too far in the future, at around 15 to 24 months away, whereas we wanted to move in 2023. We put our house on the market in April 2023, and to cut a long story short we had a rollercoaster of an experience of buying and selling. We had become so stressed with being let down by buyers and sellers, we did not want to be in a chain anymore so we decided to return to Story Homes. Luckily for us, there was one house that was due to be finished mid 2024 (July to September). We decided to buy a Sanderson property.

“What we like most about this location is being in Alnwick. Being on the outskirts is great, as it provides easy access to the walks, beaches and  coastline of Northumberland. Additionally, it is easily accessible from the A1. It is a lovely old market town, with most things that we love. The specific location of the house is perfect, as it is far enough into the development and situated in a cul-de-sac so no passing traffic. Positioning for the sun in the garden is good and we are not overlooked at the front. Houses are relatively well spaced out without feeling claustrophobic and being on top of neighbours.”

Which house type did you choose and why?

“We chose the Sanderson as it was within our top budget. We wanted a 4-bedroom house in anticipation of becoming grandparents for the first time, so we wanted  room for our family and friends to visit. We visited the showhouse at Tithe Gardens, thankfully in the North West so not too far away from Liverpool! We were pleasantly surprised by the space. Each room had a lovely open, airy feel about it. We mostly like having a separate lounge, as our previous house was a living room/dining room in one. The large main bedroom with an ensuite was a big selling point. Now that we have moved in, we have also discovered that the garden is bigger than we expected, and we were also thrilled by all the inclusions in the house price, such as fencing, turf to all gardens, patio, and block paving double/triple drive. The quality of the fixtures in the kitchen and bathrooms is very good.”

What do you love most about your house type?

“We love having the space and that everything is brand new. It gives us what we need for our lifestyle.”

Which room do you find yourselves spending the most time in?

“At the moment, we refer to this area as the ‘family room’. Its the kitchen/dining/living space at the back of the house.”

Did you consider a second-hand property? If yes, why did you choose new?

“Yes, we did and we were in the process of buying a property in Alnwick, but it fell through. That was the straw that broke the camels back that prompted us to revisit the option of looking into this development again so we were not in chain.”

What do you like most about living in a new build? Is it the space, the energy efficiency, the low maintenance, etc?

“We like that everything is brand new. It’s a blank canvas. Modern facilities, heating system, alarm etc.”

Did you consider other housebuilders and if yes, why did you choose Story Homes?

“We wanted to live in Alnwick after doing some ‘homework’ and researching the area, reading reviews and considering other developments that are ongoing in the area. Story provided us with everything we wanted: the right price, location and the fantastic customer service from the staff. Starting with Rosie in the portacabin, through to Rebecca, who has helped in every way, keeping us informed and updated about the progress of our build, the service was excellent. Even after we moved in, Rebecca continues to be patient, friendly and professional. Thank you!”

Would you recommend, or have you already recommended Story Homes?

“Yes, definitely.”
