Plans passed for third housing development in Kendal

February 2016

Story Homes has successfully secured planning permission for up to 34 new homes in Kendal.

The house builder was given the green light by the Planning Inspectorate, after South Lakeland District Council refused initial plans.

The homes, which will be built on land off Brigsteer Road, will comprise of a mixture of three, four and five bedrooms, with associated access, car parking and surrounding sensitive landscaping.

The site, which had already been allocated for residential development by the council, will help the local authority to meet their need for new housing in the district, and will also provide 12 homes designated as affordable for local people.

The plans also include the creation of a new footpath linking the site access to the existing footpath on Brigsteer Road, allowing safe pedestrian access into Kendal.

Story Homes has another development in Kendal, The Beeches off Natland Road, which has already proven to be popular with buyers, and has won a UK Property Award. Recently the house builder has had planning permission granted for another development of 71 new homes in the town on the Kendal Parks Farm site.

David Hayward, Development Planner for Story Homes said: “We are delighted by the Planning Inspectorate’s decision to support our plans to build up to 34 new homes in Kendal.

“As with all our schemes, we have been keen to ensure that it is in keeping with the local area and delivered to the highest standards. This is something The Beeches has proven we do very successfully.

“The development will also bring with it a number of benefits for the local community, including helping the local authority deliver its housing needs for the future.”

Manchester based HOW Planning acted on behalf of Story Homes to secure planning permission on appeal after initial plans were refused.

Victoria Hunter, Senior Planner at HOW Planning said: “The planning appeal has been a very intricate process given the greenfield location and the sensitive landscape of the surrounding area, but Story Homes has taken great care to ensure the scheme reflects the character of Kendal and we were confident the scheme would be given the go-ahead.

“Story Homes can now progress with its latest development and bring more homes to the town, helping to support local businesses and services.”

The Brigsteer Road site is located to the North of the Kendal Housing site allocation known as Stainbank Green. It is in a highly sustainable location, close to a number of bus routes as well as several local facilities which would be supported by the new homes.
