New homes in Appleby prove popular

February 2015

Appleby’s newest housing development, Orchard Place, is attracting residents from near and far thanks to its mix of house types and stunning location. Local families already living in Appleby have been attracted to the site, as well as families from afar afield as Peterborough.

Demand has been high for the new homes in the picturesque town as the developer brings 142 new homes to an area which was allocated for housing by Eden District Council in the 1996 Local Plan.

One of the first Story Homes’ customers to buy was the Dent family. Neil, 49, and his wife Lynda, 45, and their two daughters have lived in Appleby for over fourteen years and love it there as it’s close to their families. Neil is a familiar face in Appleby as he runs the local newsagent which is located in the centre of the busy market town.

The couple had been considering a house move for a while, but with a shortage of new homes in the area they felt there was no rush and were waiting for the right house to come along. However, soon after Story Homes launched Orchard Place they knew where they wanted to be.

After visiting Story Homes’ show homes at Crindledyke Farm, Carlisle and Whins Farm Close, High Harrington to get an idea of the quality and layout of a Story Home, they were quick to secure their new home. Lynda says: “I just fell in the love with the Arundel house – its layout is just perfect for our family and the plot we have bought has the garden we were really looking for. The four bedrooms will give us the space we need for us and our two girls.”

“I work at the local school – helping out at lunchtimes – so the location of our new home was an important factor in our decision making. Orchard Place will be perfect for us both as it’s just a short walk away from where we work.”

The ‘Arundel’ house that the Dents have chosen is a beautifully proportioned 4-bedroom detached property which sits on an enviable place on the development: the front view from their double aspect lounge is a well-designed green space. Story Homes is renowned for their award winning street scenes and this will give the family the feeling of space they are looking for.

Laura, 14, and Erin, 7, have not moved house before and they are extremely excited about the move to their brand new home: Erin was especially looking forward to the move as it means a new family pet will be joining them – a longed for rabbit.

Lynda says: “The girls are really looking forward to the move, although I’ve already told them that they have to start sorting through their toys and clothes – this move is a good excuse to get rid of lots of junk. This won’t be an easy task though and a skip will be needed!”

Next door to the Dent family, will be Gordon and Sue Smith who are relocating from Peterborough to the Eden Valley. The retired couple have decided to “move back to the hills” from the flatlands of Norfolk. Enjoying leisurely walks in their spare time, Gordon and Sue will find that Appleby and the surrounding area will provide no shortage of beautiful landscapes for them to explore.

The Smiths had a list of criteria for their house move: nothing too big/too small, a village location and lots of local amenities within walking out of their front door. After visiting Orchard Place and securing their 4-bedroom detached ‘Henley’, they found their perfect match. This house type presents a well-laid out living space including a double-aspect lounge, dining/kitchen and a study downstairs. This will provide Gordon and Sue with a beautiful home for their retirement.

Orchard Place launched in January 2015 and is an executive development offering a superb mix of 2, 3, and 4 bedroom properties, beautifully finished to a high specification. There is a great selection of apartments, detached, semi-detached and terraced houses as well as detached and semi-detached bungalows. As with any Story Homes development, the design and aesthetics of Orchard Place are very much in keeping with the area’s heritage, incorporating red sandstone for which the district is renowned.
