Why we do what we do

The housing and development crisis in the country persists, with a shortage of new homes, employment space, and community infrastructure hindering economic and social progress nationwide.

Over 8.5 million people in the UK have unmet housing needs, and in England alone, 2 million children live in overcrowded or unsuitable homes. To address this, we must build at least 340,000 new homes annually for the next 15 years.

Despite this urgent need, many local communities are held back by a lack of investment, as some residents oppose new developments without considering the potential economic, social, and environmental benefits.

By embracing a balanced approach to development that meets local needs and supports regeneration, communities can pave the way for long-term prosperity.

Our success stories

East House Farm, Washington, Sunderland

East House Farm, Washington, Sunderland

We successfully removed this site from the Greenbelt in the Sunderland Local Plan (Adopted 2020). This was one of only a few greenbelt releases in the Sunderland Local Plan and we believe this was due to the Council acknowledging the quality of the Story Homes product alongside a well thought out promotion strategy.

Strawberry Grange, Cockermouth

Strawberry Grange, Cockermouth

We strategically promoted this site through the Local Plan, gaining planning permission in May 2015. The Application was submitted in June 2014 as the Allerdale Local Plan Part 1 was moving towards adoption in July 2014. Having an application running concurrently with the progress of the emerging Local Plan helped demonstrate deliverability to meet housing requirements.

Cuerdale Garden Village, Lancashire

Cuerdale Garden Village, Lancashire

Following extensive consultation with South Ribble Council and local residents, we recently submitted an Outline Planning Application for Cuerdale Garden Village in Lancashire. The application includes the delivery of 1,300 new homes, including affordable properties, approximately 160,000sqm of new employment space, a local centre, and a primary school. At the public consultation, we were able to collect useful feedback from local residents about our proposals, which in turn helped us shape our application for this high-quality, strategic development.
