Residents moving to a new development in Stainburn can make the most of a ‘green travel plan’.
The first owners of new homes at Story Homes’ Cairns Chase development in Stainburn near Workington, will be amongst the first to be given details of the developments dedicated travel plan.
The travel plan, which considers walking, cycling and car sharing, encourages residents to discover healthier and more environmentally friendly ways to travel.
All new buyers on the 150 home development will receive an introductory pack with details covering walking, cycling, bus and train travel. There is also access to a car share database to allow residents to get to know their neighbours and half fuel costs. A dedicated website has also been created for residents to view the travel information and find out more about the benefits of changing their travel habits.
Ian Storey, Technical Director for Story Homes said: “The travel plan is an opportunity for residents at Cairns Chase to think about how they travel to and from their home to other destinations. There are a whole range of options available to them, many of which we have invested in and upgraded to make living at and travelling to Cairns Chase an enjoyable experience.”
As well as new signage into the village close to the development, Story Homes has made a community transport contribution to the Rural Wheels Service, and will make more throughout the build life of Cairns Chase. Footpath improvements have been made close to the development and a contribution has also been made towards a consultation for appropriate pedestrian connectivity on Moor Road near the Briery. A traffic calming contribution of £27,050 has also been made to support the planning and implementation of new measures on Moor Road.
Many new developments now have their own travel plan to support residents in lifestyle change and to address concerns from the local community about increased traffic movement from new houses. Other members of the established community are also encouraged to take part and consider their travel to help cut back on unnecessary journeys or consider more sustainable methods of travel.
