Economic Benefits

Economic Benefits

As a privately-owned housebuilder, Story Homes contributes to the local economy in many ways, including the provision of direct and indirect employment opportunities, affordable homes and improvements in infrastructure.

Subcontractors and the supply chain

As a business we rely on the support of high quality, hard-working subcontractors to help us deliver our high quality homes.
We pride ourselves on our close working relationships and long and successful partnerships with our subcontractors and supply chain which sees our businesses to grow together.

We are committed to investing in the local areas in which we build our homes, creating benefits for the local economy during the construction phase. This is as a result of direct and indirect employment opportunities through the sub-contractor and supply chains, as well as an increased demand for local services when the new homes are occupied.

Affordable housing

Affordable housing is a key element of the government’s plan to help the UK housing crisis, and includes homes for sale or rent and is for people whose needs are not met by the private market.

Affordable new homes are a popular option for homebuyers, allowing people who would otherwise be unable to buy a property to enjoy all the benefits of living in a brand new home for a price that fits their means.

We sensitively include high quality affordable homes within our developments to meet local needs, as required by local planning policies and in line with our commitment to the communities in which we build.

Community contributions

Helping to improve facilities within the local areas in which we build is very important to us. We include Section 106* agreements and Community Infrastructure Levy** payments within our planning applications to mitigate the impact of our developments on local infrastructure.

These payments represent significant investment in local infrastructure as proven necessary to help make our developments sustainable, and include the following:

  • Transport – including new or improvements to existing footpaths or cycle routes, new bus services and travel plans

  • Highways – including improvements to roads, access and traffic calming measures

  • Education – financial contributions towards primary or secondary school capacity, classroom improvements or the provision of new school buildings

  • Community facilities – such as improvements to, or provision of new, doctors’ surgeries, shops, office space or community centres, CCTV facilities and wildlife boards

Green mortgages

Our high quality homes are eligible for a green mortgage, where you can access reduced mortgage rates for choosing an energy efficient home.

To qualify for a green mortgage, the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of the home you are purchasing typically needs to have an energy efficiency rating of A or B – which a Story home does.

The application process is similar to a traditional mortgage, but the lender will consider energy savings in determining loan terms. To learn more, read our green mortgages blog post with Wise One UK.

I love how green and open the development is. It is very well looked after. They’re planting trees and bushes everywhere. Most developments don’t have that.

Sustainable Homes

Sustainable Homes

We are committed to building energy efficient homes that not only look beautiful, but are sustainable for generations to come.

Greener Communities

Greener Communities

We are committed to building green communities that not only look beautiful, but are sustainable for generations to come. Our homes could save customers money and also help the environment – a new build property is greener and more economical to run than an older property as it uses less energy and produces significantly lower CO2 emissions.

Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility

We are committed to enhancing the environmental performance of our business, minimising the impacts on the environment and running our business in the most sustainable way possible. We also place huge importance on the wellbeing of our people and on creating a safe and high quality working environment for our colleagues.

*A Section 106 Agreement is a legal agreement between an applicant seeking planning permission and the local planning authority, which is used to mitigate the impact of any new homes on the local community and infrastructure

** Community Infrastructure Levy is a charge which can be levied by local authorities on new development in their area.
